She was born 23 Dec 1854 in Grant County, Wisconsin. She died 26 Dec 1920 in Sherburn, Martin County, Minnesota.

DEATH: Death Certificate (by corres. from Wisconsin Dept. of Health): "George Bassett died 2 May 1920 at 7:00 pm at Minong, Washburn, Wisconsin. Died of cirrhosis of the liver. Born 12 Dec 1850, age 69 yrs. 40 mos., 16 ds. in New York state. No information listed for parents. Informant was Glen Bassett of Minong, Wis."
Obituary in MARTIN COUNTY SENTINEL (7 May 1920): "George Bassett, one of the early settlers of Martin County living on Twin Lakes and later at Sherburn, died last Sunday at his home in Minong, Wisconsin. . . . His son Charles Bassett resides in Fairmont.

HISTORICAL.: In 1867 Andrew Weber . . . loaned [his] hunting boat to George Bassett, who lived on Twin Lakes, for the purpose of building stone fence. . . One beautiful still day Isaac Helmick was over to Bassetts. The boys spent many happy hours together. George Bassett was about 17 years of age while Isaac was a year older. The two . . . set out to cross Big Twin Lake, going directly across from Bassetts to Helmicks. When they were about half way across, Isaac's dog, having attempted to follow them across the lake, swam alongside the boat, threw up his feet and attempted to climb in. Now Isaac was a nervous, scary fellow and when the dog began to tip the boat, he became frightened and jumping toward the other end, upset the boat. George swam safely to the shore, but Isaac Helmick paid the heavy toll for that ill-fated boat. He never reached the shore. . . . The little boat collected its toll and then immediately met its own fate when George chopped it into kindling wood. See MARTIN COUNTY SENTINEL, 21 May 1913.
