Margaret Joyce Bassett Wed Saturday To Jack Summerville in Methodist Church
Margaret Joyce Bassett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Rufus Bassett of 312 Chase street, Kane, became the bride of Jack Emerson Summerville, son of Mr. and Mrs. Royd Summerville, of Rimersburg, in a ceremony performed Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o?clock by the Rev. Sherman H. Epler in the sanctuary of First Methodist church.
The candle-let altar was banked with ferns and decorated with bouquets of pink gladioli and delicate blue delphinium.
A half-hour recital was given by Mrs. Victor Kelin, organist, and Mrs. Grace Miller Kepler, who sand ?I Love Thee? by Greig and ?O Promise Me,? by De-Koven, preceding the wedding. Traditional wedding marches were used.
The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white imported Chantilly lace, fashioned with a tight bodice buttoned in front to a neckline accented by a small collar embroidered in see pearls. The sleeves of the gown ere short and were met by long lace mitts. The skirt with long train was worn over a hoop skirt of satin. Her veil of illusion, outlined in narrow lace, depended from a satin bonnet which was studded with pearls. She carried s spray of white carnations and larkspur, tied with white satin ribbon.
Miss Mary Lou Seibert, of Fox Chapel, Pittsburgh, was maid of honor. She wore a gown of pale pink marquisette, with basque top outlined at the shoulders in cape effect by a scalloped embroidered ruffle. The skirt was full with many matching embroidered ruffles. She wore a pastel blue necklace and sash with pink mitts. Her crownless hat was a picture model of pink horsehair. Miss Seibert carried pink carnations and blue delphinium in the same style as the brides? bouquet.
William Kennedy, of East Brady, was best man. Ushers were Lawrence Woods and Leo Fahey of Kane and Robert Karns, of Pittsburgh.
The bride?s mother chose a gown of shrimp pink lace and a picture hat to match. She wore a corsage of gardenias.
Mrs. Summerville, mother of the groom, wore a dark blue and lilac print crepe-d chine dress and black hat. She also wore a corsage of gardenias.
Immediately following the ceremony a reception for one hundred guests was held in Bartlett Hall. The bride?s aunt, Mrs. Leroy Greene of Birmingham, Mich., Mrs. O.G. Brown, Mrs. Frank Woods and Mrs. E.C. McDade, presided at the tea table, appointed with white tapers and a center piece of pink carnations and white larkspur. Mrs. Helen Batch Launstein, of Warren, a cousin of the bride and Miss Annabelle Woods served the three-tiered wedding cake.
Four of the bride?s girlhood friends, Mrs. Clarence Michaeu, Miss Irene Colson, Miss Beth McConnell and Miss Betty James, served as aides. Others wo assisted as hostesses included Mrs. John Longshore, Mrs. Mary McCleery and Mrs. Ruth J. McConnell. The floral arrangements were by Mrs. S.S. Newcomer.
The new Mrs. Summerville is a graduate of Kane High school and Miss Conley?s Secretarial School for Girls, Pittsburg. During the past war she enlisted in the Waves, serving in the Dept. of Communications, at Washington, D.C. She has recently been employed with the H. J. Heinz Co., of Pittsburgh.
Mr. Summerville is a graduate of Rimersburg Hish school and Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh, where he studied chemical engineering. He is an honorary member of Phi Kappa Phi fraternity. He served in World War II as a B29 flight engineer in the Air Corps and is now employed by the Hagen Corporation at Pittsburgh.
Mr. Summerville?s gift to his bride was a rhinestone necklace and earrings to match.
The couple left by motor late Saturday for a honeymoon in an eastern vacation spot. The bride?s going away costume was an emerald green shantung suite with white accessories. Upon their return they will reside in Pittsburgh.

Joyce Summerville 85, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away September 10, 2010. She was born Margaret Joyce Bassett on October 28, 1924 in Kane, Pennsylvania. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Jack E. Summerville. She is survived by her three loving children, Carolyn, Stephen and Philip and five grandchildren, Jessica, Stephanie, Nicole, Nik and Mason. Joyce was a Telecommunications Specialist in the United States Navy during World War II. She attended Art School in Pittsburgh after leaving the Navy and developed a passion and talent for art throughout her life. Joyce also enjoyed music and was a member of the revered Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh as well as an accomplished musician who loved playing the piano and harmonica. Joyce was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a devout Christian and is now reunited with her loved ones in the arms of God. Funeral Service 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, Tucson. Burial to follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery, 5801 E. Grant Rd at Noon.

Joyce Bassett Engaged to Wed
Announcement was received here today of the engagement of Miss Margaret Joyce Bassett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin R. Bassett, of Chase street, and Jack Emerson Summerville, son of Mr. and Mrs. Royal Summerville of Rimersburg. No date has been set for the wedding.
Miss Bassett is a Kane High school graduate and also attended Miss Conley?s School for Girls in Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Art Institute. She was in the Waves for 18 months during World War II.
Mr. Summerville is a graduate of Rimersburg High school and will graduate from Carnegie Tech in Pittsburg in June. During the war he was a flight engineer for the Army Air Corps.
