Obituary in SHERBURN ADVANCE STANDARD, Thursday Dec. 30, 1920. Death summons Mrs. Martha Bassett. Passed away early Sunday morning after brief illness at age 66. Martha Sophia Bassett died at ther home in this city last Sunday, Dec. 26 at 5 a.m. following an illness of only a few days. . . . She was 66 years old at the time of her death. Martha S. Bassett was born in Grant Co., Wisconsin Dec 23, 1854. She moved with her parents from there to Michell Country, Iowa and to this county in 1872. Her father, the late Wm. McGhan, taking a homestead . . . [near] Monterey. In the fall of 1919 deceased with her husband and son Glen moved from here to near Minong, Wisconsin. . . When her husband died there April 3 [George died 2 May] of this past year, the widow and son returned to Sherburn, the former having since made her home with her aged mother, Mrs. Mary McGhan. Funeral services were held from the Federated Churches last Tuesday at 1 p.m. Rev. Fillmore of Fairmont officiating in the absence of Rev. Russell. Burial was made in the Sherburn cemetery. . . . Deceased is survived by 2 sons, Charles of Fairmont and Glen of Sherburn, and one daughter, Mrs. Hattie Dickenson of Dolliver, Ia; also her mother, Mrs. Mary McGhan; one sister, Lissa Steele of Monterey; one brother, Aza McGhan of Minneapolis. . . .

Back in the sevenites Mr. and Mrs. George Bassett lived in Cedar Township on a homestead, later acquired by the late Ed Adams, and from there they moved to his sister's home on Twin Lake, where they resided for several years. Then they moved to Sherburn, living there some years. Mrs. Bassett, who suffered with asthma, thought the west would be better, so they went to Montana for a few years, she improved and then they came back, living in Wisconsin where Mr. Bassett passed away last spring. Mrs. Bassett then came to Sherburn to live with her aged mother, Mrs. McGhan. . . .
