STRATFORD, May 1, - (Special) Funeral services of Frederick M. Bassett, who died at the Soldiers' Home at Noroton Wednesday at the age of 83 years, will be held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock from Henry E. Bishop's mortuary chapel, 274 Fairfield avenue, Bridgeport. Friends here were grieved to learn of the old war veteran's death, news of which was received here yesterday.
Mr. Bassett was a veteran of the Civil War and was a lineal descendant of Robert Bassett, who came from England and settled in Stratford in 1683. Mr. Bassett's father was born in 1792.
Mr. Bassett was a member of the 11th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry in the Civil war, and was orderly to Colonel John B. Howard of that regiment. He took an active part in some of the most stirring engagements of the war. He was a member of Company A and saw some hot fighting in the battles around Antietam and Petersburgh. His service covered a period of three years and he was discharged in 1865.
The aged veteran desired to attend the G.A.R. convention in Bridgeport but his physical condition would not warrant it. He died in Noroton as his comrades were gathering for the convention in Bridgeport.
Mr. Bassett was a cousin of Mrs. J. Creecy of 802 Surf avenue. Mrs. Creecy's mother and Mr. Bassett's father were brother and sister.
Mr. Bassett had been an inmate of the Soliders' Home for some time. He posed for the accompanying photograph for the Memorial Day edition of The Bridgeport Telegram a year ago.
Following the services at the mortuary chapel Saturday afternoon, Mr. Bassett's body will be taken to Danbury, Connecticut, for interment in Worcester cemetery.

Funeral services for Frederick M. Bassett, who died at the Soldier's Home in Noroton, a week ago Wednesday, at the age of 83 years, were held on Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock from Henry E. Bishop's mortuary chapel, 274 Fairfield Avenue, Bridgeport.

Obituary, Frederick M. Bassett
The funeral of Frederick M. Bassett eight-three a veteran of the Civil War, who died at the Soldier's home in Noroton, will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the mortuary chapel of Henry E. Bishop, 274 Fairfield avenue. Rev. H.A. Davenport of the People's Presbyterian church, will officiate. Burial will be in Worcester cemetery, Danbury. He was a retired railroad conductor, and a member of the Elias Howe Post, No. 3, G.A.R. which has charge of the funeral arrangements.
