Alvin W. Bassett, 78 died Tuesday, April 21, 1998 at Kenosha Hospital and Medical Center. He was born July 5, 1919 in Chicago, IL. He was the son of the late Walter and Leona (Jackson) Bassett. He lived in Waukegan for 30 years, Sturtevant, WI., for twelve years, then to Kenosha from 1995 to 1996, moving to Montana for one year and returning to Kenosha this past March to make his home.
He was educated in the schools of Chicago. Mr. Bassett was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. He enlisted the service July 19, 1943, was honorably discharged February 10, 1945. On January 4, 1947, he married Miriam Eliason in Chicago, Illinois.
He was formerly employed by the Waukegan Township High School as swimming pool operator for thirty one years before his retirement. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Waukegan, IL.
Survivors include his wife, Miriam of Kenosha, two sons; Robert of St. Petersburg, FL., and David of Bessemer, MI., there daughters; Nancy Luiso of Palm Springs, CA, Carol Hankel of Tucson, AZ., and Adrienne Bassett of Des Plaines, one brother, Robert (Bud) Bassett of Arcadia, FL, one sister Louise Kowalksi of Chicago and two grand-daughters, Laura and Nancy Hanakel and his son-in-law Robert Hankel, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private funeral services for the late Alvin W. Bassett will be held on Thursday, April 23, 1998 at Proko Funeral Home, 5111 60th St., Kenosha. Private interment to follow at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, WI.
