Oscar Bass Jr.
Oscar Bass Jr., age 81, of Atkinson, died Wednesday, January 25, 2006, at Pender Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Bass was born April 21, 1924, in Birmingham, AL, and was the son of the late Robert Oscar Bass Sr. and Lovie Mae Harris Bass. He was also predeceased by his wife, Betty Elaine Bass in 1979 and his daughter, Wanda Bass Binkley in 2005.
Having served his country honorably in the US Army, he was a veteran of WWII. Mr. Bass was a member of Atkinson Masonic Lodge No. 612 A.F. & A.M., was a 32nd Degree KCCH Scottish Rite Mason, York Rite Mason and a Certified Lecturer. He was a member of Atkinson Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Bass of the home; daughter, Carol Elaine Conlon of Durham; son, Robert Q. Bass of Atkinson; son-in-law, Randy Binkley of Currie; and sisters, Jane Spencer of Charlotte and Amy Sumner of Hoover, AL.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Atkinson Baptist Church with the Rev. Douglas Warnock officiating.
Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte, with Masonic rites accorded by West Gate Lodge No. 738 A.F. & A.M.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Burgaw.
