The plantation they lived on was the Bass Plantation (or Forest Hill Plantation) owned by Peter Bass and later by his son, Eli E. Bass. Other informaion lists Albert Bass as the father and brother of Preston Bass.
Find-A-Grave says that Susan Spencer Bass Thompson was born into slavery on the Eli Bass plantation in Boone County, Missouri. She died in an "old folks home" in Watt, California in 1920. She was married three times. First husband was Albert Bass until his death during the Civil War. They had four children. She then married Preston Bass until his death in 1895. Preston and Susan Bass raised their nephew, JB (Joseph Blackburn) Bass, as their son. Her third husband was Joseph Thompson.
