Ford M. Bassett, Indian Harbour Beach, Florida
Ford M. Bassett, 86, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2006, at Indian River Center, Caring Way Unit in Melbourne, FL. Mr. Bassett is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Olive Bassett; sons, Norman Bassett of Cudjoe Key and Thomas Bassett of Umatilla; daughters, Bonnie O'Conor of Satellite Beach and Betty Beasley of Ocala; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Ford loved his family dearly and cherished time spent with them. He always supported his loved ones in every way and they will miss him beyond words. His second lifelong love was for airplanes. Following high school Ford became an FAA licensed aircraft and engine mechanic and proudly served his country in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. His career was centered around aviation, retiring from Pratt & Whitney Research & Development Center in West Palm Beach after 27 years. Throughout his life, Ford happily spent his spare time flying, restoring, building and maintaining private planes. He enjoyed his fellowship in the Florida Aero Club and his friends at Lantana and Merritt Island Airports. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
