George Bass
Lakefield
George Henry Bass, 70, of Lakefield, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at Colonial Manor, Lakefield.
Born June 23, 1932, in Lorain Township Nobles County, he was the son of Ray and Amalia Steffen Bass. He married Mary Phinney Nov. 28, 1959 in Jackson.
He grew up on the family farm and attended country school and later Sioux Valley High School. He then farmed with family. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He returned to farming. After marriage, they farmed in Rost Township, Jackson County. In 1989, they bought a farm in Unger Township, Jackson County. He retired from farming and worked at Ag-Chem in Jackson from 1988 to 1999, when he retired. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Hunter Township.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Tom Bass, Lakefield, and Jim (Cheryl) Bass, Jackson; three daughters, Deb (Jeff) Heser, Jackson, Marie (Kenny) Pell, Petersburg, and Sharon (Dave) Bateman, Mankato; three brothers Harold (Verna) Bass, Okabena, Robert (Delores) Bass, Jackson, and Ernie (Gladys) Bass, Windom; one sister, Peggy (Walt) Onken, Windom; and 12 grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hansen Funeral Home, Lakefield, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Hunter Township.
The service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Hunter Township, with the Rev. Bart Mueller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lakefield.
