Adeline Lorraine Bass
January 13, 1929 ? September 1, 2026
Adeline Lorraine Bass, age 97, was born on January 13, 1929, in Rost Township, the daughter of August and Gesena ?Sena? (Kluever) Frodermann. She attended Sioux Valley and Round Lake High School until the tenth grade. Adeline dropped out of school to help her parents with the farming after her brothers were called to serve in World War II. She eventually received her GED in 1968 at the Okabena School.
Adeline met the love of her life, Arthur Bass, and they were married on November 22, 1947. They lived one year with Art?s parents until seeing an ad in the newspaper for farm help at the Kay Bros. farm. Art took that job on December 10, 1948, and they had been there ever since.
Adeline worked at the Okabena School as a cook for eighteen years. After the death of Emil Kay in 1978, Art and Adeline started farming with Vernon Kay. After her husband Art passed away in 1987, Adeline continued farming with her son Vernon and then her son Verlin joined the farming operation in 1991. In 1998, she thought it was time for her to retire. She loved being outside gardening, mowing her lawn on her Grasshopper Mower, and seeing if her sons needed her help with the farming.
Adeline was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Okabena, MN and a 50+ year member of the Okabena American Legion Auxiliary Post 608. She hand stitched and tied quilts for all of her grandchildren when they graduated from high school. Adeline enjoyed dancing at the Fox Lake Ball Room and Sioux Valley Log Cabin back in the day when they were open. She also enjoyed going to casinos and playing Cribbage, Crazy Pinochle, Dominoes, and Boggle. Adeline also loved sports and attended many games when she was able. Adeline passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Sanford Worthington Medical Center in Worthington, MN.
Adeline is survived by her children, Donna (Terry) Bakalyar of Springfield, MN, Vernon (Donna) Bass of Okabena, MN, Verlin (Marsha) Bass of Okabena, MN, Roger (JoAnn) Bass of Elko/New Market, MN, and Judy Muller of Osage, IA; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and five sisters, Dorothy Lass, LaVonne Polzine, Janice (Marlin) Johnson, Shirley Christians, and Linda Laman.
