Florence Mildred Bassett
Florence Mildred Bassett, 102, of Ravenna and Kent area, died Friday, April 1, 2011 at KentRidge at Golden Pond in Kent. She was born May 4, 1908 in Amherst to Henry and Mayme (Minch) Frederick. She was active in the PTA, Girl Scouting, Ravenna Coterie, and retired from Trexler Rubber Company where she was office manager. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ravenna where she taught Sunday School and was a member of United Methodist Women. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, creating many beautful projects for her family and charities. Florence is survived by daughters: Carol (Deryl) Porter of Warren, Elaine (Paul) Long of Kent, Linda (Edwin) Clark of Ravenna; ten grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Harold Frederick of Winter Park, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold G. Bassett; sister, Gladys Nofzinger, and brother, Robert Frederick. The family would like to give a special thanks to friends, owners, staff and hospice at KentRidge where she received kind and compassionate care. An Appreciation Of Life Service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 8th, at First United Methodist Church of Ravenna with Reverend Scott Purdum officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Ravenna, 263 South Prospect Street, Ravenna, Ohio 44266 or Coleman Adult Day Services (PASS), 6695 North Chestnut Street, Ravenna, Ohio 44266. Bissler and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory are handing the arrangements.
