      Annette Bassett, 76, Shelbyville, passes away February 6

      It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Annette Bassett, 76, of Shelbyville IL. Annette passed away at 4:42 pm Friday, February 6, 2026, in her home surrounded by family.
      Annette graduated high school from Peoria IL. She attended college at Illinois State University in Bloomington IL.
      Annette married Larry Brantley in the spring of 1969 and was blessed with two daughters. In 1974, she was recognized as one of the first women coal miners in the state of Illinois. Annette went on to marry Rodger Bassett in the winter of 1974 and was blessed again with a son.
      Throughout their life together, they enjoyed the outdoors with family and friends. Together they purchased and restored many old homes, restoring them to their original beauty.
      In 1990, the family settled in Shelbyville IL, later acquiring Cardinal Campground and have been running the business for over thirty years. Annette was a home health aide, taking care of the ill in their homes with loving care. She volunteered her time to the community working at the Senior Citizen Shop in Shelbyville for many years. Annette enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and her grandchildren. Annette gave all she could to her family, friends and community.
      She will be greatly missed.
      Annette is survived by her husband, Rodger; daughters, Christina Brantley of Shelbyville, IL; Aimee Gholson (Ashley) of Mattoon, IL; son, Ryan Bassett of Shelbyville, IL; sister, Judy Ladd of Havana, IL; brother, Eric Allard of Springfield, IL; two grandchildren, Jeremy Stiles (Elizabeth) and Jordan Brown (Amber); and eight great grandchildren, Ziola Stiles, Marley Stiles, Draven Massey, Madison Massey, Skylar Massey, Carter Woodruff, Brielle Woodruff, and Alison Brown.
      She was preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis Smith and Jeannette Antoncew.
      The family will host a celebration of Annette's life from 11:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 15, 2026, at the Shelby County Senior in Forest Park, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.
