Sylvester Monroe Bass
Sylvester Monroe Bass of Newberry died Wednesday at E.T. York Hospice Care Center in Gainesville. He was 81.
Mr. Bass was born in Newberry and was a lifetime resident. He was a retired farmer.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of American Legion Post No. 149 in Newberry and the Newberry Church of Christ. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Evertice L. Bass of Newberry; a daughter, Cindy J. Bass of Newberry; sons Bo Bass and Wayne Bass, both of Newberry; a sister, Geneva Hinson of Newberry; and four grandchildren.

S.M. Bass named Newberry deputy
NEWBERRY ? Alachua County Sheriff Toe Crevasse today announced the appointment of a Newberry native, Sylver M. Bass, as deputy, effective June 1.
A farm-owner in the area, Bass will work out of the sheriff?s office in Gainesville on assignments. He will continue to reside n Newberry, Crevasse explained.
Married to the former Mary Anne Langford of Alachua County, Bass and his wife have two sons. He is a member of the Newberry Church of Chirst and American Legion.
