N’llton Negro Is Charged In Fire Case
Ambrose Bass, 53 year old male Negro of Route 2, Newellton, Louisiana, was charged on December 15 with Fire Raising on the Lands of Another by Criminal Negligence in Tensas Parish. The charges were filed at the Sehrrif’s office in St. Joseph.
Bass, who lives near the Newlight Community, set fire to some grass and weeds on some rented land and took no precautions to prevent the fire from spreading. The fire burned approximately 16 acres of timber on properties owned by Hays Yarrington and Chicago Mills Lumber Co. Included in the sixteen acres burned were three acres in a Game Management Area.
Investigation of the fire was conducted and charges filed by Law Enforcement agents of the Louisiana Foresty Commission.
