      He was the son of James Franklin Bassett and Willard DeArnold Bassett of Crittenden County (Bassett, Arkansas).
      Bassett moved to Florida in the late 80's and was currently working for the Ponte Vedra Club in security. He attended Beach United Methodist Church, was a Mason and served on the board of directors of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.
      Bassett was a graduate of Christian Brothers College in Memphis. He was also in the Army and Navy serving in the Military Police Corps. After his discharge, he served as Captain in the Memphis Police Department. He later became a Senior Executive in the truck stop and oil business and helped found what later became the largest chain of truck stops in the United States in the 1960's and early 1970's (Mid-Continent Systems).
      His wife, Goldy Holcomb Bassett, who he married in 1954, predeceased him. He leaves a son Frank Aslan Bassett, 49, of Tampa, Florida; and a granddaughter Candice Ann-Marie Bassett, 21, of Jacksonville, Florida.
      Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 12, in the Chapel of Quinn-Shalz, A Family Funeral Home. Arrangements are handled by Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home.
