Ronald E. Bassett (1946-2016) (Picture included)
Ronald E. Bassett, 69, of New Kensington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at his home. He was born Nov. 16, 1946, in New Kensington, to the late Stanley Jr. and Gloria Wright Bassett. He was a graduate of Har-Brack High School in 1964, and proudly served his country in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, and was part of the Security Police Squadron in Vietnam. Mr. Bassett was a furnace worker at Allegheny Ludlum in Brackenridge for 30 years, retiring in 2006, and was a member of the Independent Protective Order of the Elks of the World (IBPOEW) of New Kensington, where he enjoyed helping with the lodge functions, and served as their Exalted Ruler and District Deputy. Surviving are his two sons, William (Heather) Bassett, of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Everett Bassett, of New Kensington; stepson, Stephan Hayes, of New Kensington; daughter-in-law, Amanda Booker; grandson, Ryan Robitaille; and great-granddaughter, Addilyn White; brother, Stanley Bassett Jr.; two sisters, Sandra Bassett and Cynthia (Roy) Butler; a half-sister, India (Joe) Bassett Caldwell; and his half-brother Byron Schuler. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Christopher and Ronald Bassett Jr.; a sister Cassie Jackson.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington. Visitation will be one hour prior to time of service. Mr. Thomas King will officiate at the service. The Vandergrift Veterans will accord military services at the funeral home after the service. The Elks will hold services at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
