Frances H. Bassett
Frances Henderson Bassett, 99, of Easton, passed into the arms of Jesus Nov. 26, 2009. Survivors: Daughter, Linda A. Bassett of Wilson; two sisters-in-law; niece, nephew; cousins. Predeceased by husband, John R. Bassett, in 1978. Services: private. Ashton Funeral Home, 14th and Northampton streets, Easton.

Frances H. Bassett
Frances H. Bassett, 99, formerly of College Hill, Easton, passed into the loving arms of Jesus, Thursday, November 26, 2009 in New Eastwood, Wilson Borough. Born: January 2, 1910 in Oxford, NJ she was a daughter of the late Rusling W. and Alice L. Seiple Henderson. Personal: Her husband, John R. Bassett, owner and operator of the former Bassett Cleaning Co. in Easton died in 1978 after having shared with her a loving marriage of over 42 years. Working side by side with her husband for more than 30 years in their business, they both retired in 1974. From 1943 to 1945 she ran the family business alone while her husband served his country with the Army infantry in the European Theatre. Fran often spoke with great appreciation of the help she received during that difficult period from Mr. Friedman, the owner of King's Cleaners at that time. Prior to this she worked for 15 years as secretary to John R. Stofflet, Easton branch manager for the New York Wall St. investment firm of Lord, Abbott & Co. She was valedictorian of the class of 1927 of the former Oxford (NJ) High School and a 1928 graduate of the former Churchman Business College in Easton. Years ago she enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. She also enjoyed the many travel experiences she had in past years, was an avid reader and did handiwork and handcrafts of all kinds. Memberships: She was a member of First United Church of Christ, Easton and the former Busy Fingers group, and for many years tended the bake table for the church's rummage sales. Previously she was a member of the former Grace United Church of Christ, Easton, serving many years on the Consistory as a deacon and as secretary. She was a member of the church's Minerva Weil Missionary Society and worked at the annual "Block Party" and "Election Day Bazaar", as well as the many church dinners and other fundraisers. She was still a member of the Women's Christian Fellowship which continued after the church's closing. During her formative years she was a member of the Colonial United Methodist Church, Oxford, NJ. She was a member of the National AARP, and one of the organizers and a charter member of the former Paxinosa Chapter No. 3519, serving on its Board of Directors. She was also a former member of the Oxford Historical Society, and a former member of the Easton Sertoma Club. Through her life she had been a devoted and loving wife and mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She touched many lives with her kindness, generosity and positive attitude. Her strong faith made her an inspiration to all who knew her. Survivors: She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her only child, her daughter Linda A. Bassett of Wilson Borough. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law; a nephew, niece and several cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Wilbur W. Henderson in 2000, a sister, Grace H. Roseberry in 2003, a nephew, Brian D. Roseberry in 1996 and a niece, Jennifer A. Bassett, in 2008. Services: will be private, under the direction of the Ashton Funeral Home, 14th & Northampton Sts., Easton. Interment will be in the Northampton Memorial Shrine. Memorials: May be made to the church, 27 N. Third St., Easton, PA 18042, the American Lung Assoc. of Lehigh Valley or a charity of one's choice.
