John Andrew Bassett
John Andrew Bassett, 76, passed away early on Friday, April 28, 2023. John was born November 25, 1946 in Livonia, PA. He was the adored son of the late John and Phyllis Bassett. John is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years Melinda and his devoted daughter Sarah. His son Andrew predeceased him.
He grew up with his cousins playing in the woods and helping at the family hotel.
In 1964 he graduated from Sherwood High School and attended the University of Maryland. Following his father's footsteps John served in the Air Force Reserves.
John worked at Mar-Lu-Ridge and made it his home for over 30 years. He met Melinda there and married in Mar-Lu-Ridge's Chapel. The camp is also where they welcomed and raised their two children for close to 15 years. After leaving the camp the family settled in Jefferson, MD.
John played the guitar, was a veritable treasure trove of trivia and enjoyed watching old westerns and films. He could fix just about anything, and did. He could be found working outdoors, helping someone out or feeding the birds.
John leaves behind and will be missed by many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He will be remembered by his best friends Phil and Liz.
The family will receive family and friends on Friday, May 5 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702.
