Cayce - Services for James B. "Jim" Bass, 87, of Cayce, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, with Pastors Gary Farmer and Dow Welsh officiating. Interment, with US Air Force honors, will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.
Mr. Bass died November 10, 2017. Born in Georgetown, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Joe Ben Bass and Dorothy Mae Bass.
Jim graduated from Winyah High School, North Greenville Jr. College and Furman University. He also served for 2 years in the United States Air Force. His passions were directing Christian music, and coaching youth sports, of which he did for more than 50 years.
Jim leaves behind his wife of 22 years, Dorothy Ann Bass; daughters, Alecia Bass and Teresa Miller (Jody); sons, Jimmy (Nickie), Michael (Brenda Lee) and Robby (Toni); 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Other surviving family members are his sisters, Doris Bass McLeod and Faye Bass Parrish (Sidney); sister-in-law, Margaret Bass; 3 nieces and 1 nephew. He was predeceased by his brother, Larry Bass, and brother-in-law, Bob McLeod.
The family would like to thank Jim's caregivers for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made, in Jim's name, to the Cayce Department of Public Safety Foundation, c/o City of Cayce Department of Public Safety, 2 Lavern Jumper Road, Cayce, South Carolina 29033, Attn: Fire Department, or to Holland Avenue Baptist Church, 801 12th Street, Cayce, South Carolina 29033.
