Alton Bassett
Alton G. Bassett, 79, of Evansville, died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Welborn Baptist Hospital. He retired in 1985 from George Koch Sons. He was a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church and the Sheet Metal local. Surviving are a daughter, Karen Farmer of Wadesville, Indiana; four sisters, Aline Cecil of Evansville, Martine Daniel and Gladys Settle, both of Owensboro, Kentucky, and Opal Hoyt of Crown Point, Indiana; two granddaughters, Stacie King and Kristie Farmer; and one great-grandson. His wife, Leeodia Mae, died in 1987. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, the Reverends Donald Wells and Craig Settle officiating, with burial in Calhoun Cemetery in Calhoun, Kentucky, where the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
