Gardner O. Pratt (1926-2016) (Picture included)
Gardner O. Pratt, 90, lifetime resident and quintessential townie of Bridgewater, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2016, surrounded by loved ones at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the devoted husband of the late Kathleen J. (Bassett) Pratt. He was the father of the late Michael and Jeffrey Pratt. He is survived by his children, Susan Pratt Thompson of Virginia, Shelly Karparis of Plympton and Shirley Pejouhy of Taunton; his grandchildren, Stephanie M. Rebling, Laura J. Rebling and Meredith D. Rebling all of Virginia; and his sister-in-law, Joan Hodgkins. He is also survived by his devoted friends, David Hanson of Bridgewater, Chuck King of Easton, Gary Adam of Berkley and Joan Luiz of Bridgewater and his many nieces and nephews. Born May 25, 1926, in Brockton, he was a son of the late Arthur E. Pratt and Gertrude A. (Porter) Pratt also of Bridgewater. Gardner was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Missouri and witnessed the Japanese surrender during World War II. He wore many hats during a lifetime of careers including a lobsterman out of Manomet, and owner of Crabtown USA in Middleboro. Additionally, he perfected the craft of cabinet making and later on became known as the "Reliable Retiree" with his landscape business. Friends and family often boasted him as the "Mayor of Bridgewater" and on his eightieth birthday, Gardner received a Proclamation of Recognition from the Bridgewater Board of Selectman proclaiming a Gardner Otis Pratt day. Gardner's countless hobbies during his lifetime included playing in a four-piece musical band called the Rhythm Aces, roaming center field for the Nailers, and ice fishing on the Nip. His love of conversation and robust verbal wrangling would often send him to Honeydew and the "Wind Tunnel" (McDonalds) to scope out townie news with some of his favorite people who he had much affection for. Gardner will be remembered most for his passion for gardening, infectious humor in any situation, unwavering recollection of Bridgewater history and his endearing love for family and friends. Following cremation, a memorial gathering will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 South Main St., West Bridgewater, Friday from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. followed by a memorial service in the funeral home at 12 p.m
