Dr. Lawrence W. Bass
Dr. Lawrence W. Bass, 83, died early Tuesday morning, Feb. 3, after a long illness. He was a former Vice President of Arthur D. Little, of Cambridge Mass. He graduated from Yale in 1992 with a Ph.D. in chemistry and carried on research studies at the Sorbonne, the Pasteur Institute and the University of Lille. He spent many years in industry, between 1931 and 1952 as a research director for the Borden Company, U.S. Industrial Chemicals and the Air Reduction Co. Dr. Bass authored nearly 200 technical publications, including books a found United Nations monographs. His most recent book, ?Management by Task Forces: A Manual on the Operation of Intermediary Teams,? is a practical treatise on the use of the technique by industry and government. Dr. Bass was a past president of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Yale Engineering Association and past chairman of Engineer Joint Council. He was a member of the Cosmos Club of Washington, D.C., and the Chemists? Club of New York City, among others. There will be a funeral Mass at Our Lady Chape at St. James Cathedral on Saturday, February 6, 10 a.m. Interment in Lake View Cemetery. Survivors include his aunt, Mrs. Mabel L. Robison, of Seattle; Mrs. Rhoda Caldwell, sister-in-law, Falls Church, Va.; Mrs. Ann Geier, Maitland, Fla, niece and several cousins in Seattle and California.
