Horace L. Bass
Horace L. "Sam" Bass, 73, a resident of Annapolis for 27 years, died Oct. 28 at the Spa Creek Center, Genesis HealthCare, after a brief illness.
Mr. Bass was born Dec. 8, 1933, in Greenville, N.C., and spent most of his childhood years in Clarksburg, W.Va. He also resided in Florida where he was stationed as an Air Force first lieutenant at the Orlando Air Force Base.
Mr. Bass received his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Richmond in 1956 and his juris doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1963.
He had four loves in his life - his family, his dogs, the practice of real estate and the Chesapeake Bay. He held the Graduate Realtor Institute and Certified Residential Broker certifications in real estate and enjoyed the challenge of writing contracts. He was an associate professor of real estate at Catonsville Community College for five years.
He founded Professional Real Estate Inc., which he equipped with cutting edge technology, including one of the first computers at the time. After retiring from the firm, he moved to Anne Arundel County and became licensed as an associate broker with Coldwell Banker, where he worked until his illness.
He liked teaching his grandchildren to fish and to appreciate marine and bay life. Mr. Bass cherished his longtime friends and neighbors, enjoyed music and played the piano, organ and ukulele. He was a member of Annapolis Yacht Club, Podickory Point Yacht Club and the Maryland Association of Realtors.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Anne Clark Bass; three daughters, Kathy Clevenger of Annapolis, Elizabeth "Bobbi" Heller of Arnold and Nancy Wright of Severna Park; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 1601 Pleasant Plains Road, where the family will receive friends and relatives following the service.
