Mrs. Dowling Dies in NC
THOMASVILLE, N.C. ? Mrs. Laura Bassett Dowling, 77, of Thomasville, died at the Haven Convalescent Nursing Home near Lexington Wednesday night after an illness of five years.
Mrs. Dowling was born in Hampton County, South Carolina, daughter of Mitchell P. Bassett and Anna Googe Bassett. She lived in Thomasville for the past 22 years, making her home with a daughter, Mrs. C.M. Crosby. She was a member of the Brunson Methodist Church at Brunson, S.C., and was the widow of Wade H. Dowling, who died Jun3 4, 1938.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Crosby; one son, J.C. Dowling of St. Augustine, Fla.; one brother, Mitchell Bassett of Jacksonville, Fla.; four sisters, Mrs. E.C. Youmans of Moncks Corner, S.C., Mrs. Paul Allen of Allendale, S.C., Mrs. P.J. Crapse of Lena, S.C., and Mrs. R.A. Kinard of Fairfax, S.C., and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Methodist Church at Brunson, S.C., at 2 p.m. Saturday by the pastor of the church. Burial will be in the Dowling family cemetery.
The body will be at the Siler Funeral Home in Timmonsville until Saturday morning.
