Ron Bassett
Ron Bassett, 63, of Ojai died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, from complications
sustained during heart surgery at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in
Thousand Oaks.
Ron was born March 20, 1940, in Evanston, Ill. He grew up in South Bend, Ind.,
and graduated from Purdue University. His entire career with the United States
Forest Service was spent on the West Coast. He retired in 1994, after 33 years
of service. Ron was a true outdoorsman with a great love of fishing and
hunting, and was a member of the Ojai Valley Gun Club.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Charlene; son, Ron III of Boise,
Idaho; daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly and Jody De Deaux of Granada Hills,
Kerry and Troy Brown of Conway, Ark.; son and daughter-in-law Steve and Nikki
of Honolulu, Hawaii; and stepdaughter and her husband, Becky and David Realin
of Santa Maria. He was also the proud grandpa to Kylie, Samantha, Anthony,
Andrew, Shane, Garrett, Sierra, Spencer, Ahlijah, Alexavier and Aaron. He is
also survived by his brothers, Tom of Palm Springs and Robert of Fort Myers,
Fla.; and sisters, Tamara Greenwell of Homer, Alaska, Nancy Liszkows
Wheaton, Ill., Margo Mason of Searsport, Maine, and Sachan Bassett of South
Bend, Ind. Ron was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Bassett, in 1993;
and his first wife, Nancy Carroll Bassett, in 1980.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at the
Church of the Living Christ, 190 E. El Roblar Drive, Ojai, with pastors James
Lair and Ron Triggs officiating. Friends are encouraged to dress casually and
to share any special memories or stories about Ron. Burial will take place in
Weaverville, Calif. Memorial contributions may be made in Ron's memory to the
Ventura County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, 250 W. Citrus Grove
Lane, Suite 200, Oxnard, CA 93036. Arrangements are under the direction of the
Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
