Mrs. J. Gray Hicks
Funeral services for Mrs. J. Gray Hicks, 42, of 1902 North Elm street, whose body was discovered at the foot of a basement staircase in her house yesterday morning after she apparently had a stroke and fell, was held at 11 a.m. today at Hanes chapel by Dr. Charles F. Myers, pastor for First Presbyterian church.
Following the service here, the body was carried to Henderson for a service at Holy Innocents Episcopal church at 5 p.m. today and burial in Maplewood cemetery there.
Surviving are her husband, of the home; two daughters, Miss Blanche and Miss Sallie Gray Hicks, of the home; five brothers, Dr. H.H. Bass, Thomas Bass and Staton Bass, all of Henderson, Arch L. Bass, Durham, and Horace L. Bass, Clarksburg, W. Va.; two sisters, Miss Emily B. Bass, Durham, and Mrs. G.W. Mason, Jr. South Boston, Va.

Rites To Be Held Today For Mrs. Hicks
Stroke Is Fatal to Local Woman
Funeral service for Mrs. J. Gray Hicks, 42, of 1902 North Elm street, who died suddenly yesterday morning at her home, apparently as the result of a stroke, will be held today at 11 a.m. at Hanes chapel by Dr. Charles F. Myers, pastor of First Presbyterian church.
The body of Mrs. Hicks, wife of the district manager of Standard Oil company of New Jersey, was discovered in the basement of her home by Otis Blanchard, negro truck driver for Citizens Coal company, when he called to deliver a load of coal. Dr. W.W. Harvey, county coroner, who was called after the driver had notified a neighbor, said Mrs. Hicks had been suffering from high blood pressure for some time and that she apparently had a stroke and fell while going down the basement stairs.

Bass, Durham, and Horace L. Bass, Clarksburg, W.Va.; two sisters, Miss Emily B. Bass, Durham, and Mrs. G.W. Mason, Jr., South Boston, Va.
Mrs. Hicks was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. H.H. Bass of Henderson, and came to Greensboro in 1934. She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal church here.
