Mrs. Noel Bessette Stricken Tuesday
Stricken suddenly while in the store of Boyer Brothers on East Main street at 4:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon, Mrs. Virginie Bessette of Catherine street, died within fifteen minutes. Although Dr. J.W. Kissane was summoned, the woman was beyond all medical aid and passed away a few minutes after his arrival.
During the past year, Mrs. Bessette had been subject to fainting splles, but otherwise appeared to be in good health.
Mrs. Bessette, whose maiden name was Virginie Belanger, was born in Plattsburgh and spent most of her younger life there. She came to this village about twenty years ago, where she has since resided.
She was united in marriage to Noel Bassett eight years ago. They conducted a small grocery store at 28 Catherine street. Following Bessette’s death last September, she carried on the business up until a short time ago.
Despite her age, Mrs. Bessette was an active woman. She was a communicant of the Notre Dame church and a member of the Rosary society of that church. She had many friends in this community as well as Plattsburgh, who will deeply grieve to learn of her death.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Mary Dupont of Plattsburgh and Mrs. Mathilda Premo of St. Martin, Canada. A step daughter, Mrs. Minnie Diederich of Springfield, Mass., also survives.
