Born in North Carolina to the late Jack Bass and Mary Lamm Bass, he moved to Jarratt and retired from Georgia-Pacific Corporation. He is survived by his wife, Jean Simmons Joyner Bass; three sons, Harvey M. Joyner Jr. and wife, Karen, John W. Joyner and wife, Frances, Calvin L. Joyner and wife, Eleanor; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild; his sister, Bertha Bass of Wilson, N.C. Mr. Bass was preceded in death by his brothers, Edgar Bass, Jimmy Bass and Jessie Bass; his sisters, Virginia Thigpen, Dorothy Tolbird and Lucille Bass. The family will received friends 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 16 at High hills Baptist Church, Jarratt, Virginia, where a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2006. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to High Hills Baptist Church.
