SPRINGFIELD, IL - Stephen A. Bassett, 65, of Springfield, died at 9:58 p.m., Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, in Morrisonville, Ill.
He was born July 15, 1951, in Springfield, to Leo and Velma (Range) Bassett. He married Patti Williams on March 6, 1971, and later married Michaelene Crifasi on Jan. 16, 1998, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Jeph (Carrie) Bassett of Springfield; one stepson, Andrew Bartashies of Dawson; one grandson, Jack Bassett; one sister, Sharon (Tony) Schneider of Williamsville; one uncle, Kenneth (Esther) Range of Bloomington; one niece, Rene (Mitch) Johnson of Springfield; one nephew, Jason Hebron of Jacksonville; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sandy Hebron.
Steve was an honorary member of the Anchor Boat Club. He enjoyed fishing, yachting, camping, professional baseball, Little League World Series, old movies and many winters in Florida.
He worked for the Sangamon County Highway Department and IDOT for 36 years before his retirement.
Memorial Gathering: 1-3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield.
Memorial Service: 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield with the Rev. John E. Nelson officiating.
