Kentish Newspaper Proprietor?s Death
The funeral of Mr. R.G. Bassett, senior, managing director of the Kentish District Times Co. (Limited), took place yesterday at Bromley Cemetery.
Mr. Bassett, whose death occurred on the 1st inst., was in his 65th year, and was well known in the City of London, where he had many friends. In his early life he founded ?The Kilburn Times,? which is still a thriving property. Next he was associated with Mr. E. Dawson Rogers in this management of the National press Agency, which was originally called the Liberal Press Agency, but changed its name at Mr. Bassett?s suggestion to meet a wider clientele. In connection with the building-up of this well-known agency Mr. Bassett came in contact with newspaper proprietors throughout the kingdom.
About 1883 he sought some relaxation from the strenuous life of the City, and became proprietor of ?The Sidcup Times,? from which he developed the important series of twelve papers, covering North-Western Kent, now conducted with much success by the Kentish District Times Co. (Limited). Mr. Bassett succumbed to Bright?s disease after a depressing illness.

The remains of the deceased, who died from a distressing malady, have been buried in the Bromley Cemetery.
