Boy, 2, Is Dead From Drinking Medicinal Oil
Ernest H. Bassett of E. Longmeadow Victim; Case Said Mishap
Ernest Henry Bassett, two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest A. Bassett of 29 Newbury Ave., East Longmeadow, who was poisoned by drinking oil of wintergreen Friday, died Sunday in Wesson Memorial Hospital
Complains of Pains
The child had been rushed to the hospital Saturday after he complained of stomach pains, and his name placed on the danger list Saturday night. Relatives said the infant had apparently discovered a full bottle of the oil, used as a back rub, and had emptied half of its contents. Medical Examiner Dr. William Mosig ruled the death accidental.
Besides his parents, Ernest and Geraldine (Black) Bassett, the boy leaves a sister, Bettina April Bassett at home; his paternal grandparents, Adolphus and Eva (LaPointe) Bassett in Ellington, Connecticut; and his maternal grandparents, Henry and Vera (French) Black of Mystic, Connecticut.
Funeral services will be held at Graham-Wallengren funeral home Tuesday at 11 with Reverend Kenneth R. Teed, pastor of East Longmeadow Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery, Rockville, Connecticut. Visiting hours will be tonight from 9 to 9.
