Melva Rose Bassett
LOUISVILLE - Melva Rose Bassett, 83, Sycamore, formerly of Louisville, retired dental assistant, died Sunday (March 1, 2009). Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Neal Funeral Home, Louisville. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial: Oskaloosa Cemetery, Xenia.

Melva R. Bassett
DeKalb - Melva R. Bassett passed away March 1, 2009, at Bethany Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in DeKalb, Illinois, after several months of declining health. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Melva Hammond was raised and went to school in Salem, where she graduated from high school in 1943. She married Del Bassett on March 9, 1946, after his return from duty in World War II.
Melva and Del lived in Salem with their three daughters for several years. They moved to several different locations before settling in Sycamore, where the girls were raised, attended school and now call home.
Melva and Del returned in 1979 to Louisville, Illinois, where they spent their retirement years together until Del's death in 1995. They were both lifelong members of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by her three daughters, Linda (Dennis) Mikutis, Clarice Shivers and Jo Halstead. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, Gary (Lois) Mikutis, David (Regina) Mikutis, Daina (Eric) Thompson, Andrew Halstead, Michael Roesch and Danielle Roesch; six great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Carl Tucker, Clifford Tucker and Maurice Tucker.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Delmar Bassett; her parents and her grandparents.
The funeral service for Melva will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 6, at Neal's Funeral Home, 825 Chestnut in Louisville, Illinois. Melva will be interred at Oskaloosa Cemetery beside her husband, Del Bassett. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at the funeral home; 618-665-3100.
