Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the chapel of Rankin Funeral Home in Salem for Robert D. Bassett, 82, of Salem. Burial will follow in the Oskaloosa Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by the Luther B. Easley American Legion Post of Salem. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. The Reverend John Craig will officiate the services.
Bassett died on Wednesday, December 6, at Twin Willows Nursing Center in Salem. He was born in Xenia on January 25, 1924, the son of Albert and Stella Wiseman Bassett, and they preceded him in death. On February 13, 1943, he married Marceline Fulfer in St. Louis, Missouri.
He is a retired employee of Ashland Oil Co. He was a member of the Salem Church of Christ and is a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army.
Survivors include: his wife, Marceline Bassett of Salem; a son, Stephen Bassett of Louisville, Kentucky; a daughter, Barbara Ash and husband Harold of Salem; four grandchildren; and nine-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Bassett and his wife Bonnie Bassett; two sisters; and six brothers.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice and will be received by the funeral home.
