William E. “Bill” Meade
William "Bill" E. Meade, 63, of Green, passed away on July 30, 2008.
Bill was born in Jefferson, Ohio on February 5, 1945. As a young boy, Bill
began working at his father's business, Meade Sand and Gravel, where he
learned to run heavy equipment at the age of twelve. He graduated from
Jefferson High School in 1963 and later attended Kent State University. Moving
to the Akron area in 1964, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in
Hudson. Bill served in the 107th Armed Cavalry of the National Guard, during
which time he began a career in the Real Estate Title Insurance business. In
1985, he formed Meade Title Insurance, Inc., later merging with Chicago Title
Insurance Company, Bill held the position of Vice President and Manager of the
Akron Metro Area. After retirement, he found time for other interests, which
included golf, sporting events, travel, and genealogical research. He was a
member of the former Akron City Club and a long time member of Firestone
Country Club. Bill was a 32nd Degree Mason, Valley of Akron and a member of
Tadmor Shrine and Adoniram-Joppa Lodge #517.
Preceded in death by his parents, Albert C. And Grace L. Meade; brother, James
L. Meade; sisters, Lauris Chalker, Evelyn Pheasant and Martha Swanson;
brothers-in-law, Calvin Pinney, Robert Dumperth and Fred Pheasant; he is
survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Elizabeth "Betty" A. (nee Kline);
sisters, Ann L. Pinney, Ethel G. Dumperth, Ruth M. (Boyd) King, Carol M.
(William H.) Evans and Mary Lou Plut; sister-in-law, Janice (Darl) Coon;
numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at the
Schermessser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road (Route 619), with
Father Samuel Ciccolini officiating. Calling hours will be Friday from 3 to 9
p.m. and Saturday one hour to service. Masonic Service will be Friday at 7
p.m. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery with graveside Military honors performed
by the American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to the Interval
Brotherhood Home, 3445 S. Main Street, Akron, Ohio 44319 or the First Baptist
Church, 85 W. Jefferson Street, Jefferson, Ohio 44047. (Schermesser-Green,
