James E. Bassett Jr.
PHELPS - James E. Bassett Jr., age 53, died unexpectedly on Wednesday (June 14, 2023) at his home.
Friends may call on Friday (June 23) from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Cheney Funeral Home, 70 Main Street, Phelps.
A celebration of life will be held at a time to be announced.
It is requested that memorial contributions be made in memory of Jim to Beverly Animal Shelter 50 E. River Road Waterloo, NY 13165. Jim was always known to have a love for animals of all kinds.
Jim was born on January 19, 1970, in Geneva, N.Y. the son of James E. Bassett Sr and Jo Ann McDermott.
He graduated from Midlakes High School, class of 1988, and from Keuka College in 1998 with a BS in Occupational Therapy.
He worked for many years for Clifton Springs Hospital and FLDDSO as an Occupational Therapist. Jim was an avid reader, historian in his free time, and had a profound love for all things related to Metal music (Long Live Metal!). He had a creative mind, loved drawing, and would often leave us with little sketches. Jim had a passion for searching for answers amongst the stars. His greatest pride and accomplishments were his four boys and he devoted his life to them.
Jim is survived by four boys, Zachary (Amber) Bassett of Montour Falls, N.Y., Alexander Bassett of Geneva, Jeb Bassett of Corfu, N.Y., Maximus Bassett of Phelps; two grandchildren, Abram and Daniel Bassett; mother, Jo (Paul) Burnett of Clifton Springs; siblings, Amy (Robert) Wright of Lyons, Kevin Bassett of Rochester, Derek Burnett of Geneva, Jessica Burnett of Newark; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
