Ira E. ?Dick? Bass, 80
Ira Efferson "Dick" Bass, 80, of Dunn died Sunday morning, June 10, 2018, at his home. He was born July 10, 1937, in Sampson County to the late Parlie and Alma Thornton Bass. Mr. Bass was preceded in death by his grandparents, Amzie and Maddie Robertson Bass and Ira and Pearl Thornton.
Mr. Bass worked for over 30 years as a tractor mechanic and owned and operated Bass Gas, Grocery & Grill for over 14 years. He was known for visiting the sick in the community and caring for those less fortunate.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Maple Grove Methodist Church with the Revs. Allison Lancaster and Charles Ray Jernigan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Peggy; sons, Efferson "Effie" Bass and wife Mary Dawn, and Chris Bass; daughter, Sylvia Bowden, all of Dunn; and a grandson, David Bowden and fiancée Amber of Wilmington.
Visitation will be held this evening from 5 to 7 at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home in Dunn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Maple Grove Methodist Church, 784 Maple Grove Church Road, Dunn, NC 28334.
