Bea W. (McCormick) Bassett (1920-2016) (Picture included)
Bassett (McCormick) Bea W. (McCormick) Bassett, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 with family at her side. Bea was born on April 5, 1920 in Rices Landing, Pennsylvania to the late Olney and Winnetta Watson. Bea is survived by her daughter, Nancy (McCormick) Albu and husband, George; her son, Mark McCormick; grandsons, Luke Albu and Stephen McCormick; as well as many relatives and dear friends. Bea loved learning and graduated from Niles McKinley High School then went on to Mt. Sinai in Cleveland where she received her degree as a Registered Nurse. From there Bea embarked on a lifetime of helping others. She and her husband Matt McCormick lived in Germany while he was in the Army and then returned to Ohio to raise their family. With family grown and on her own, Bea moved to Florida and there she married Roland Bassett and they shared many adventures together before he passed away. She worked as a public health nurse in Oklahoma, Florida and Ohio. She also worked at The Ohio State University and spent 20 years as a RN at Riverside Hospital retiring at the young age of 88! Love of family was #1 in her life and she was there for all the celebrations and the experiences of life. Always with a smile and joy to share with all. Bea was a hard-working and caring person with an infectious smile and unrelenting positive attitude. She loved poetry and was the go-to person on any question about proper grammar. She was a shining example of the power of kindness and caring and will be deeply missed. The family wishes to express deep and sincere appreciation to those who work at The Forum of Knightsbridge and to the caring individuals of hospice who shared not only their skill, but their kindness and generosity of heart with Bea and her family. Family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m., with her Memorial Service at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road in Upper Arlington.
