Bristol, Tennessee - Joanne King Bassett, 73, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2005, at NHC of Bristol. She was born in Bristol, Virginia, a daughter of the late Richard E. and Otye Webb King. She was a member of the Border Guild/JuniorLeague, which she served as president for two years, and the Blue Stocking Club. She was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church and received a honorary life membership in the Presbyterian Women.
Survivors include her husband, Doug Bassett; her children, Gerry Bassett and his wife Amy of Hixson, Tennessee; Janet Clark and her husband John of Elizabethton, Barbara Allen and her husband Charles of Johnson City; and Blake Bassett and his wife Laura of Bristol; eight grandchildren, Tripp, Liz and Laura Ellen Bassett, Hailey Clark, Chip and Wes Allen, and Blakesley and Alie Bassettt; brother, Richard E. King Jr. and his wife Julie of Bristol; sister-in-law, June E. Bassett of New York; and three nieces.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:45 Friday evening, August 12, 2005, at First Presbyterian Church of Bristol, with the funeral service to follow at 8 o'clock. Dr. Gordon Turnbull will officiate. The committal service and interment will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning, August 13, 2005, at Glenwood Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Lunch Bunch. Memorial contributions to First Presbyterian Church, 701 Florida Avenue, Bristol, Tennessee 37620; and Healing Hands Health Center, 210 Memorial Drive, Bristol, Tennessee 37620. The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to health care givers, Dorothy Wilson and Rosetta Vinson, and to the management and staff of NHC.
