Ann B. Schiff, born on March 24, 1933, in Syracuse, NY to Tefft T. Bassett and Miriam W. Bassett, passed away on December 12, 2020 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the beloved wife of Raymond R. Schiff (1926-1969) and is survived by her children, Robert F. Schiff of Washington, DC, Donald F. Schiff of Portland, OR, and Joan E. Schiff of Philadelphia, PA.
Ann graduated from Syracuse University and completed most of the work for a Masters degree in Child Development and Aging at the University of Pittsburgh. She worked as a teacher of the deaf at the Clarke School for the Deaf in Northampton, MA and at the Pittsburgh Hearing and Speech Society. She also worked as counselor for families at the Jewish Home for the Aged in Pittsburgh, PA, as an archivist on the letters and papers of well-known Catholic Worker artist and architect Ade Bethune in Newport, RI, and as office manager of Sun-Lite Corporation in Philadelphia.
Ann was a founding member of Amos House, a Catholic Worker community in Pittsburgh and active in the Pittsburgh Oratory. She was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church parish in Philadelphia. Her greatest joy was meeting, learning about, and coming to understand other cultures and people. She was always a source of wise counsel and insight to her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ann?s honor can be made to the Thomas Merton Center (Pittsburgh, PA), the Rodney D. Williams Philadelphia Fund for Seniors, or Caring for Friends, formerly known as Aid for Friends (Philadelphia, PA).
