      Charles E. Bassett, formerly of Morocco passed away Wednesday evening, April 1, in his home at 421 Ellsworth Street, Gary. He suffered a heart attack.
      He was the son of the late Ira and Susan Hillyer Bassett and was born June 22, 1900 at Morocco. He attended school at Morocco and graduated with the class of 1920.
      He was very musically talented and he had his own Boy Scout band in Morocco. He later went to Lowell and worked for the New York Central Railroad. While in Lowell he led the orchestra at the Christian church and gave private music lessons.
      He went to Gary in 1932 and started working in the Gary Steel Mills. He was a clerk in the Gary Works of United States Steel Corporation at the time of his death.
      On September 12, 1937, he was united in marriage with Dorothy Sellers of Morocco. Two children were born to them, David Allen and Wayne Edwin. Mr. Bassett was a member of the Morocco Baptist church and on October 12, 1941 he transferred membership to Westminister Presbyterian church at Gary.
      He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Dorothy, his two sons, and David and Wayne, all of Gary; one sister, Mrs. Charles Hoover of Morocco, two brothers, Arthur of Hammond and Elmer of Oklahoma City; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
      Funeral services were held at Williams and Burns Funeral Home at Gary on Friday night and at the Methodist church at Morocco on Saturday afternoon with the Rev. xxxton P. Fowler, pastor of the minister church of Gary, assisting. Rev. Rolston, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

      GARY- Charles Basset, 52, formerly of Morocco, died Wednesday evening in his home at 421 Ellsworth street, Gary. He suffered a heart attack.
      Born at Morocco, he lived at Gary 19 years and was a clerk in the Gary works of U.S> Steel corporation.
      Surviving are the widow, Dorothy (Sellers) Bassett, formerly of Morocco; two sons, David and Wayne, both of Gary; two brothers, Arthur, of Hammond, and Elmer, of Oklahoma City, and a sister, Mrs. Charles Hoover, of Morocco.
      Services and burial will be at Morocco.
