Wickliff Bassett
A retired principal with the East Baton Rouge Parish school system, he died Friday, Nov. 15, 1996, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. He was a native of Baton Rouge. Visiting at Dessell Funeral Home 1 p.m. Tuesday to 4 p.m. Religious services at Mount Gillion Baptist Church from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. F. D. Nash. Dismissal at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Interment in Stockade Cemetery. Survived by a daughter Wicklynn Bassett Travillion; a grandson, Wickliff Bassett Travillion, both of Houston; two sisters, Emele Bassett Beverly, Galveston, Texas, and Mary Bassett Battieste, Baton Rouge; two brother, Lemuel Bassett, Bunkie, and Wilbert Bassett, Galveston; an aunt, Velma Hatter; a sister-in-law, Juanita Bassett, Galveston; friends including Rubie Dodson, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceded in death by parents, Cortez Bassett and Lillie Hatter Bassett; wife, Joyce Hobson Bassett; four brothers, Willie, Nolan, Lloyd and Cortez Bassett; two sisters, Celeste Jackson and Emma Levy; and godparents, Wilbert Coats and Celestine Bassett Coats.
