David French Bassett
Traverse City - David French Bassett, 56, of Traverse City, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2006, at Tendercare of Traverse City. David was born May 1, 1949, in Saginaw, the son of the late Donald C. Bassett and Joan M. (Bassett) Shuler.
He graduated from Groves High School in Birmingham and attended Northwood Institute in Midland and Oakland University in Rochester.
David served in the United States Navy and later became a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He had a special talent for working with handicapped individuals at the League of Handicapped/Goodwill in Detroit and Community Mental Health in Traverse City.
David loved the north woods and enjoyed camping, boating and long rides in the country. An avid reader, he had an incredible store for knowledge on just about any subject. His humorous wit, his ready smile, and the strength and sincere kindness of his personality will be lovingly remembered by all his many friends and family.
David is survived by his mother, Joan M. Shuler of Sarasota, Florida; brothers, Stephen (Christine) Bassett of Williamsburg and Peter (Donna) Bassett of Lansing; nieces Leah and Sarah Bassett; nephew, Grant Beach; aunt, Audrey Bassett; uncle, Webster Cook; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald C. Bassett.
At David's request, cremation has taken place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee. Final interment will take place in the spring at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Saginaw.
The family has entrusted arrangements to Oak Grove Cremation Center in Manistee.
