Charles Rodger Bassett

Charles Rodger Bassett, 75, of Dix, Illinois passed away at 11:55 P.M. July 10,2018 at his residence in Dix, Illinois. He was born November 8, 1942 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to Charles O. Bassett and Alta M. Cox. He married Judith F. Corvin on July 28, 1980 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with 31 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on December 13, 2011.
Rodger is survived by his son, Kenneth Bassett and wife, Diane of Mount Vernon, Illinois; 2 daughters, Twila Hodges and husband, Paul of Metropolis, Illinois, and Patty Zettle and husband, Brad of Johnston City, Illinois; 5 stepdaughters, Mary Elizabeth Lytle and husband, Donald of California, Judie Ann Phillips of Colorado, Velaria Wyant of Vincennes, Illinois, Veletta Loss of Grayville, Illinois, and Madalyn Wooden of Cisne, Illinois; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Clara Baer of Elkhart, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
Rodger was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and stepson, Michael Loss.
Rodger was a member of the NRA since 1991. He was also a member of Boyd Christian Church. Rodger was a school bus driver for Beck Bus and drove the same high school route for 39 years from 1978 until his retirement. He was also a Taxi cab driver for several different companies and owned and operated the A-Ace Cab Company from 1990-1996. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Graveside Service will be held Friday, July 13, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Kirk Cemetery with Reverend James Watts officiating. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital or to Paralyzed Veterans of America.
