Donald Gray Bassett
Mr. Donald Gray Bassett passed away Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at his home. He was born Dec. 5, 1926, in Forsyth County to the late Will and Effie Williams Bassett and he spent most of his life in Winston-Salem. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was a self-employed decorator. He fought a courageous battle with cancer. Surviving are his wife, Flora "Flo" Ball Bassett, of the home; a special daughter, Deborah Boles of Dallas, Texas; two sister, Roy Grandy of Winston-Salem and Doris Levengood of Wallburg; a wonderful mother-in-law, Mrs. Eva Ball of Winston-Salem; and aunt, Mrs. Virginia Bassett, who was a great inspiration; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 .m. today, Oct. 23, at Oaklawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Harold Bassett and the Rev. Dale Hancock officiating. A special thank-you is extended to his twin nieces, who visited and called each day, and to his great-niece, Kristin, whose visits brought him great joy. Thank you also to Dr. Chrysson and the staff of hospice home care. He will be missed by all of those who really knew him. The family requests that memorials be directed to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 1100-S S.
