Hazel Ruth Preston Bassett (Picture included)

Hazel Ruth Preston Bassett, 102, of De Leon, went home to her Lord and Savior March 27, 2017, with her loving family by her side.
She was born July 31, 1914, in the Comyn community to William Jackson Preston and Georgia Alice Strong Preston. Hazel married Walton T. Bassett December 21, 1934, in De Leon at the First Baptist Church parsonage.
Hazel lived in the De Leon community most all of her life. She was employed as a clerk and operator for De Leon Telephone Company for over thirty eight years. She and Walton were faithful members of First Baptist Church. Hazel was a dedicated church member for over eighty two years. She loved her church family just as her own. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, needle work, playing bridge, and cooking. She was a wonderful and talented cook. Hazel lived in the same home for over seventy five years. In her younger years, Hazel was extremely active in the De Leon Community. She was a past Worthy Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Women?s Division of the Chamber of Commerce. She loved her community and was committed to serving her Lord and others in need.
She is survived by her loving and devoted daughters, Shirley Ruth Bassett Prud?homme and husband, John Thomas, Jolene Bassett Whitehurst and husband, Daylon; grandchildren, Rev. Tommy Prud?homme and wife, Kirsten, Patti Wendlandt and husband, Clark, Rebecca McDowell and husband, David, Michael Prud?homme, Philip Prud?homme and wife, Michelle Stahl, Dalene Florez, David Whitehurst and wife, Patti, Darren Whitehurst and wife, Lissa, and chosen granddaughter, Jana Cullers and husband, Carlton; great-grandchildren, Caitlin Prud?homme, Rachel Prud?homme, Jack Prud?homme, Emily Wersig and husband, Michael, Katie Wendlandt, Michael McDowell, Kyle McDowell, Philip McDowell, Meredith Prud?homme, Sam Prud?homme, Jordie Mehr, Sam Florez, Grace Florez, Preston Whitehurst, Katie Whitehurst, Anna Whitehurst, Will Whitehurst, Julieanne Whitehurst, Amy Cullers Stewart and husband, Brian, Emily Cullers, and Will Cullers; many dearly loved nieces and nephews; and other extended family.
Hazel was preceded in death by her loving husband, Walton T. Bassett; parents, William Jackson and Georgia Alice Strong Preston; brothers, Loy, Festus and Doyle; and an infant sister.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 31, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at De Leon First Baptist Church with Brother Daniel Harper and Brother Jackie Auvenshine officiating. Hazel was laid to rest next to her husband in De Leon Cemetery.
