Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at Grand Mesa Southern Baptist Church in Cedaredge. Survivors include three sons, Roger of Cedaredge, Richard of Miami and Robert of Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Delta County Independent, August 1, 2008 Esther Congdon A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 31, at 10 a.m. at Grand Mesa Southern Baptist Church in Cedaredge, with Pastor Steven Puls officiating. A private family interment will take place at Cedaredge Cemetery. Mrs. Congdon was born June 7, 1915, in Loveland, to Kenneth and Grace (Sankey) Bassett. She spent her childhood and attended school in Loveland and Fort Collins. She graduated in 1938 with a bachelor?s degree from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill. She married Wilfred Congdon Nov. 21, 1938, in Iwo, Nigeria, West Africa. They served as missionaries in Nigeria for over 41 years. They moved to Malawi, in southern Africa in 1979, and worked there until 1981 when they retired to Eckert. Mrs. Congdon was a member of the Grand Mesa Southern Baptist Church and Surface Creek Historical Society, both of Cedaredge. She enjoyed reading, cooking, singing and gardening. She is survived by three sons and their wives, Roger and Sandy Congdon of Cedaredge, Richard and Jena Congdon of Miami, Fla., and Robert and Gail Congdon of Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Karin, Ruth, Courtney and Lesley; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Congdon was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred Congdon; two brothers; and two sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to Grand Mesa Southern Baptist Church, P.O.
