      Janie Bass
Jane passed away on January 14th, 2024

Wife, mom, sister, and grandmother ?JJ,? Janie Holcombe Bass?s love for life, fun, music, and traveling will be carried on through her loved ones. Surrounded by family who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to their fullest, Janie passed away on January 14th, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer?s. Janie was born to Troy and Louise Holcombe on August 6th, 1952. Janie married Chuck Bass, and they have celebrated over 47 years of marriage and have three children, Elizabeth & Lee Brumbelow, Nancy Bass, and Mark & Megan Bass. Janie and Chuck also have five grandchildren: Lily, Addy, Bree, Rhett, and Cole. She is also survived by her sister & brother-in-law, Di & Richard Wiggins, and brother & sister-in-law, Tommy & Dana Holcombe. Janie graduated from the University of Georgia with her Bachelor?s in Early Childhood Education and then went on to complete her Master?s degree at the University of Georgia. Janie taught school for thirty years and touched hundreds of lives during that time. She took great pride in her classroom and in her students? education. She would even have her own children help her students who needed the extra support with tutoring in the afternoons. Janie truly loved life and had a laugh that was unique but also contagious. When someone she loved (not only her children) graduated, became engaged, had a baby, or was having any other life event, she was always the first to offer to host a party. She always wanted to celebrate these milestones with others. Janie loved playing racquetball in her younger years while raising her children. Janie mostly enjoyed spending time with her family at the lake, watching Georgia football, playing games, and reading. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling to numerous places around the country and world with her husband, Chuck. The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Thursday, January 18, 2024, from 11:00 AM until 11:45 AM. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 12:00 PM from Martin & Hightower Funeral Home, with Minister Larry Acuff officiating and eulogy by Richard Wiggins. Inurnment will follow in the Center Point Community Church Cemetery. Janie will also be honored at a beach-side celebration of life by her family later this year. Janie would have asked that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Guthy-Jackson Foundation to aid in research for NMO, which has affected her granddaughter, Addy. Donations may be made online by visiting www.guthyjacksonfoundation.org. Messages of condolences can be sent to the family at www.martin-hightower.com. Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
