Lord Burton was the active head of the great brewing business of Messrs. Bass, Tarcliff & Gretton, Ltd., and was mainly responsible for its being built up to its present proportions. In the affairs of the trade he took a leading part and was proud of being a brewer. He was senior vice-presdient of the Brewers’ Society and occupied several honorary positions in the trade organiziations.
