- John Fletus Bassett, son of Eli and Rhoda (Kersh) Bassett, was born around 1801 in South Carolina. He married (1) Amelia Darsey on 1 May 1838 in Liberty County, Georgia, according to "Pioneers of Wiregrass, GA". He married (2) Frances Jane Baisden no later that 4 Jan 1841 when the estate of her parents, Josiah and Mary Dunham Baisden, listed her as an heir in Hamilton County, Florida. (Deed 170, dated 4 Jan 1841). Frances was given a slave by her father in 1834. Francis is listed as parents of twins Ann Mary and Josiah B. possibly making the marriage listed above to Amelia a different John Bassett.
John and Francis moved to Hernando County, Florida about 1845. There may have been two John Bassetts living in Hamilton County, Florida at an early date. Josiah and daughter Francis were in Hamilton County, Florida by 1834.
