Roger J. Bassett
Bassett, Roger J. - Died Friday, Februray 17, 1995 at Highland Hospital. He was 72, a native of San Antonio, Texas, a former resident of Baton Rouge and a resident of Shreveport for 47 years. He was an independent geologst, formerly chief geologist on staff of the Louisiana State Mineral Board 1965 to 1974 and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he was in the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart. Visiting at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, after 10 a.m. Sunday. Religious services in the funeral home chapel at 11:30 a.m. Monday. Interment in Forest Park West. Survived by wife of 52 years, Lois Beatrice Gurwin Osgood Bassett, Shreveport; two sons, Gary Bassett, Franklin, Tennessee; and Michael Bassett and his wife Tricia, Shreveport; a daughter, Becky Martin and her husband, Ben, Quitman; a sister, Betty Newton, Longview, Texas; 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Preceded in death by a son, Robert R. Bassett; and two sisters, Lois Carpenter and Martha Williams. He was a graduate of Texas A&M Class of 1944, and a member of University Church of Christ, Shreveport Geological Society, A.A.P.G., Aggie Club, Senior Citizen's Club, 39er's and a former member of the Shreveport Petroleum Club. Memorial donations may be made to the Benevolent Program of University Church of Christ.
